more watts?

Good point about the brightness. I think at cruising speed the RD is putting out 14V, 20 amps which in terms of wattage, is 180. AT idle it is probably outputting 70 watts. My headlights are definately brighter than the stock 35/50watt incandescent i took off. Keep in mind if you go higher, the wiring could be an issue. Mine has not been.
Halogen bulbs make the glass quite hot though.

thanks, apparently you can run 55W bulbs just fine without them being too dim...
